Mary-Alice Moore

President, Highlights Consumer Business
Mary-Alice Moore has spent her career building experiences that help children become their best selves. Before joining Highlights in 2009, she worked across children's publishing at Farrar, Straus & Giroux, HarperCollins, and Scholastic. But three earlier chapters shaped her most. She ran a children's bookstore, where she saw firsthand how the right book at the right moment could light up a child's imagination and send their curiosity in a dozen new directions. She led a childcare center serving children from infancy through school age. And she raised three sons of her own. All three experiences fed her belief that the earliest years are when curiosity takes root, confidence begins to grow, and the habits of heart that last a lifetime are formed.
That belief lives at the center of everything Highlights does, because Highlights is as much for the adults who love children as it is for children themselves. The moments that matter most aren't always the big ones. They're the wonder on an infant's face when a parent reads to them. The look on a toddler's face when they figure something out on their own. The four-year-old learning what it means to be kind. Highlights exists to support the caregivers, parents, and teachers who create those moments every day and to make more of them possible.
Mary-Alice is also the author of The Wheels on the School Bus, a picture book that grew from following her own son's fascination with school buses and imagining together what might happen if one picked up all the teachers instead of the kids.
She is a graduate of Georgetown University, where she studied Spanish and Linguistics, and lives in Fairfield, Connecticut, with her husband and three sons.
